Pints, Watts & Cobblestones

Taking on the Roads of Northern France with Friends of SunMer

The sharp hiss of a hand pump, the clinking of espresso cups on saucers, and the distinct hum of tires rolling over morning asphalt.

At 08:00 AM, friends of SunMer gathered in northern France for a day defined by pure cycling obsession: the inaugural PWU ridePints and Watts United. The premise was straightforward yet punishing: tackle a custom 100-kilometer loop taking on the notorious sectors of Paris–Roubaix, trade flat watts for cold beer across five classic French PMU bars, and finish the day taking over an entire village for a post-ride mini festival.

Here is what went down when good friends, brutal pavé, and summer vibes collided.

The Calm Before the Cobbles: 8:00 AM Rollout

The morning began slow and intentional. Warm croissants, rich espresso, and kit checks set the tone as riders connected, swapped tire pressure theories, and pinned down their route files.

The goal wasn’t chasing podiums or hunting segment crowns—it was about collective momentum. But on these roads, the terrain always demands respect.

• Start Time: 08:00 CEST

Pave, Dust, and 5 PMU Checkpoints

Riding the cobbles of northern France is an exercise in violent rhythm. The moment rubber hits the pavé, smooth cadence gives way to raw power. To survive the sectors, you have to lean in, hold the tops, and push serious watts.

To balance the grit with pure community culture, the route broke up the punishment with five scheduled PMU stops.

These classic French village café-bars served as the heartbeat of the ride:

PMU Stop 1: Quick hydration, early banter, and shaking out arm pump after the opening cobbles.

PMU Stop 2: Cold bière pression, citrus sodas, and realigning tire lines.

PMU Stop 3: The midpoint reset—salty snacks, espresso top-ups, and dust-covered grins.

PMU Stop 4: The tactical breather before the final stretch of technical farm sectors.

PMU Stop 5: The celebratory pre-finish toast as the pack regrouped for the run home.

Each stop brought riders together to swap war stories, fix slow punctures, and tap into the local pace of northern French village life.

Village Takeover: The Evening Mini Festival

By late afternoon, dust-coated and buzzing on endorphins, the peloton rolled back into town. Bikes leaned up against brick walls, cleat clatter echoed through the square, and the village takeover kicked off.

What started as a cycling route transformed into an open-air mini festival:

Local Soundtracks: DJ sets bringing festival energy into the village center.

Cold Pours & Street Bites: Flowing drinks and regional food to refuel 100km of cobble riding.

The SunMer Community: Cyclists, locals, and friends hanging out long after the sun dipped below the horizon.
